Lifebook – a laptop that integrates all our other gadgets.5 photos
The eternal dilemma for users is whether to choose numerous high-quality individual devices or one single gadget that combines all of them. It seems that a satisfactory solution has been found. Designer Prashant Chandra has conceived the Lifebook laptop, which could be available for purchase as early as 2013. Many of our current devices duplicate each other’s functions. Just try to count how many digital cameras you own: there’s probably a primary one, a camera in your phone or laptop, and perhaps one or two cameras in your tablet. Each of these devices also comes equipped with its own processor, and some even incorporate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and GPS receivers. As a result, we end up with a vast number of devices sharing common functions, which could theoretically be combined into one device. However, in modern times, this is only possible at the expense of reducing the quality of some of these components. This is especially true for cameras. But designer Prashant Chandra’s Lifebook concept combines all our current digital devices without any such trade-offs. This device would integrate a tablet, mobile phone, camera, and audio player, each of which could function independently. Together, they would form a complete laptop. We’ve seen a similar idea before in the modular Bento laptop concept; the Lifebook represents its further development. Technically speaking, the Lifebook is not particularly complex; all the necessary technologies already exist, so it’s just a matter of combining them into one device. That’s why designer Prashant Chandra expects to bring his idea to market in 2013.
