Modern style on Klotchkovsky Street.

At the very beginning of Klotchkovsky Street, at number 3, we find the most beautiful example of the modern style in the city’s architecture. This former tenement building was constructed in 1903 by the architect B. M. Korenenko for the merchants S. and Sh. Gulko. The building represents the decorative aspects of this architectural style, as it features animal and plant motifs in both relief and flat ornamental designs. A particular highlight is the facade’s stonework carving, which depicts numerous mythological symbols. Among the intricate patterns of branches, leaves, and fruits, we can see a bud or a cocoon within which lies a toothed dragon, biting its own tail—a clear example of this style’s fascination with mythical creatures. Today, the building houses various institutions.
