#### Succession of Events on Pavlovskaya Square The historical name of Pavlovskaya Square was Rosa Luxembourg Square, also known as Torgovaya Square. For 150 years, this place served as the main urban market. It was customary at this market to negotiate the price: buyers and sellers would agree on a certain amount before making a transaction. In Kharkov, a prominent merchant named Pavlov realized that some people were too shy or unwilling to engage in such negotiations. Therefore, he decided to introduce a new practice: fixing the prices of goods. His colleagues believed he would go bankrupt as a result, but he became one of the most successful merchants in Torgovaya Square. In fact, he even built a large stone house there, which later passed to his son. From 1868 to 1874, the Pavlov family owned the Small Theatre in this building, where the Berger opera troupe performed. Later, the most prestigious hotel in Kharkov, the “Grand-Hotel”, was established there. In the 1830s, the square was renamed Pavlovskaya Square. As Pavlov became increasingly wealthy, he began acquiring large tracts of land, including what is now known as Pavlovo Pole and the village of Pavlovka. Trade on Pavlovskaya Square continued unabated until the Second World War. #### Source: vk.com/old_kharkov
