6, Sumskaya Street.
One of the oldest buildings on Sumskaya Street. According to the information provided in Leibfried A.Y.’s catalog, the three-story building at number 6 was constructed in 1879 according to the design by architect B.S. Pokrovsky for a person named Lysikov.
In 1912, the building was renovated in the Art Nouveau style and extended by two additional floors, designed by architect B.N. Korneenko for I.I. Freiman.
On the first floor, there are commercial spaces equipped with large display windows. The walls of the two upper floors are decorated with strips of glazed colored ceramic tiles. The partitions between the windows on the fourth floor are framed by pairs of columns, while the fifth floor is a penthouse apartment.
Like many other historic buildings, this one also fell into disrepair towards the end of the Soviet era.
After extensive renovations, it has once again become a prominent landmark at the beginning of Sumskaya Street.
Above the windows are installed female sculptures, placed on pedestals shaped like women’s masks.<
