In conceputual photography, the photographer seeks to convey a particular idea or narrative through the image. In other words, they aim to communicate something to the viewer or tell them a story. To achieve this goal using photography, extensive preparation is often necessary. The photographer brings their entire imagination and creativity into the process of shooting; what is required here is more of an artistic approach and creative thinking than merely technical proficiency. Conceptual photography presents the viewer with the artist’s vision of the world.

Many ordinary photographs simply show a subject matter. What we see on them is exactly what exists in reality. The composition and lighting may be impeccable, but even the best-of-images remain mere representations of objects. However, in conceptual photography, behind each image lies a story that cannot be ignored. Sometimes the narrative is complex or not immediately obvious, so it requires careful attention to detail in order to understand the artist’s intended message.
