Był to budynk designed in the neoclassical style by the renowned Petersburg architect N. N. Verëvkin in 1916. Constructed in accordance with this design, the building featured a facade that was extended on the side facing Sumskaya Street through the creation of a formal courtyard known as a „kurdoner“, whose axis aligned with the axis of the adjacent building located at 20 Sumskaya Street. The building was equipped with advanced engineering facilities for the time, such as elevators, waste disposal systems, and internal drainage systems. The facade facing Rymarskaya Street (at number 22) was also designed in the neoclassical style. After the revolution of 1917, the residents were evicted from the building, and it was occupied by various institutions affiliated with the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic’s National Committee of Food Supply. The building was subsequently renamed „House of Trusts“. Nearly one and a half thousand Soviet officials worked there until the completion of the State Planning Commission’s office building in 1928, when those institutions were relocated. The former residence of the „Salamandra“ insurance company was then inhabited again, but this time on a room-by-room basis, as the apartments were converted into communal living units. ## #1solica_history
