The House of the Noble Assembly is a fascinating story of a once-proud building that has since been lost to history. The building of the Noble Assembly was designed by architects Vasilyev E.A. and Lobachevsky V.N. in the style of Russian classicism, featuring a large hall and chapels. It was one of the first stone structures on Nikolaevskaya Square. In 1814, the Harbin noble class decided to build a dedicated venue for their meetings. 128,987 rubles were raised for the construction, and architect Vasilyev was hired to design the project. The building was completed in 1820 and was adorned with cannons from the Harbin fortress during its construction. In 1893, the renowned Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky gave a performance here. During World War I, the building was converted into a hospital. In 1917, the First All-Ukrainian Soviet Congress was held in it. From 1919 to 1934, the first Ukrainian Soviet government, the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR, operated here. Later, it became the residence of the Pioneers’ Palace. It is worth noting that the first New Year’s tree in the USSR was installed in the Harbin Pioneers’ Palace.
