#### Chinese #### Love’s Home: Where Intelligentsia Who Were Later Executed Lived In the early years of the Soviet Union (1921–1930s), this street was named Street of Equality and Brotherhood; later it was renamed Street Dzerzhinsky, and then again Street Mironovitska. It is one of the oldest central streets in Kharkiv – yet also one of the most tragic. Located between Sumskaya Street and Pushkinskaya Street, it is unofficially known among the locals as the place where the elite of Kharkiv were executed. This street earned its name from a 18th-century church named Church of the Women Who Bring Peace (Cross-Bearing Church). During the Russian Empire, it stood at the intersection of Sumskaya Street and Skripnik Street, where the famous “Mirror Stream” can be seen today. In 1930, the church was successfully demolished. On Mironovitska Street, one can find both beautiful buildings constructed in the early 20th century and plain, unremarkable structures from the Soviet era, mixed alongside new business centers and residential buildings. But let’s focus on the dilapidated apartment building at number 86. No one remembers the exact date of its construction; it is believed to have been built somewhere between 1904 and 1907. What stands out immediately about this building is its architectural style – a romantic modern design created by the famous Kharkiv architect Viktor Estrovich. He adorned his masterpiece with intricate decorative patterns, imitation colonnades, and tiny cherubims that seemed to hold up a portion of the roof itself. #### #1solica_history
