Holy Cross Church, Church Beregove

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the historic Beregove & ndash.; this is the most significant architectural monument not only of the village, but of the entire Transcarpathian region. Its deep roots go back to the time of the first decades of Christianity in Russia. According to the scratched inscription in one of the window frames, the church was erected in 1100. The first annalistic data confirming the alleged construction of the temple were made in 1247.

The church has a delightful architecture from a mixture of several style directions. It has Romanesque features, baroque elements and the dominant Gothic style. Such a wide range of styles is associated with a number of reorganizations and temple destructions caused by the military history of the area, the raids of the Tatars and other rebel armies. In addition, the 10-century life of the church directly required frequent repairs and ongoing renovations. The most significant were made in 1418, 1567, 1900 and in 2002.

Inside the temple, the iconostasis and the richest decor of the walls, describing the episodes of the history of the church, as well as the sundial & ndash; the visiting card of an ancient building that continues to indicate the time here is already the 12th generation of parishioners.
