St. Michael's Church, Snyatyn

In the center of Snyatin in 1880-1886 the church of the Miracle of the Holy Archangel Michael was built. In the years 1878-1882, the priest of the OCHA, Teofil Kobrinsky, lived here together with his wife Natalya Kobrinskaya, one of the first Ukrainian feminists. He was the rector of the Church of the Holy Ascension.

It was Father Theophil who decided to build a new large templeinstead of the old one in the central Snyatyn area. In the spring of 1880, the territory for construction was consecrated by the metropolitan of the UGCC, Iosif Semrabatovich. This event was celebrated in the city for three days. Here came the Lviv choir of theologians, who at one time was ruled by Father Theophilus. Since then, Sniatin has a church choir. Kobrinsky was in it both a conductor and a singer.

The building needed material. Father Teofil managed to get the permission from the Austrian authorities to allow the brick for the construction work to be left in the military barracks that were destroyed by a violent fire. The construction of the new church involved all residentsSnyatina, including the priest himself. During the construction work, he caught a severe cold and fell ill with tuberculosis. The priest died on April 14, 1882, never seeing the new temple.

For divine services, the St. Michael Church was opened on September 19, 1886. It was consecrated by Bishop Julian Peles.

The grateful residents of Snyatina on the facade of the temple installed a memorial plaqueof the memory of Teofil Kobrinsky
