Franciscan monastery in Vinogradov
As is known from history, the Franciscans were a monastic Catholic order, founded by St. Francis of Assisi, hence the name for the representatives of this order. Monks preached asceticism, love of neighbor and almost extreme poverty on the verge of poverty. In the 16th century Transcarpathia began to spread the reform movement, which led to the disbandment of the Order. However, this did not prevent the Franciscans from returning half a century later and rebuilding the monastery and the church, which in the early 18th century were destroyed by the Tatars. Later the monastery was rebuilt, in Soviet times (since 1945) the building housed a historical museum, a unique painting was destroyed, and the monastery school was turned into a library.
The monastery is an architectural complex consisting of a stone-brick church and a two-story house with cells. Initially, the building in the Gothic style was located in a semicircle, thus forming an inner courtyard, but to date part of the building has not survived. After the Tatar raid the monastery was rebuilt anew, but already in the Baroque style with elements of classicism. The Franciscan monastery in Vinogradovo is a unique architectural monument with its uneasy destiny, but it is a unique place where crowds of tourists come every year.
