Tikhoml hillfort, Yampol

Tikhoml ancient settlement is located on the site of the eponymous Old Russian town. Now it is located on the outskirts of the village of Yampol near the village of Tikhomel. For the first time it is mentioned in annals dating from 1152.

According to one version, this fortification was built by the order of Prince Vladimir the Great in the late 10th century. Until now, the ruins of the tower-chapel of the ancient fortress, located to the south of the ancient settlement, have been preserved. In the 18th century it was rebuilt. In the interior of the tower fragments of unique frescoes, characteristic of the paintings of the 16th century, were preserved.
