Monument to St. Nicholas

Nikolaev is a very green city. There are many squares and parks here. One of the most popular is the Chestnut Square.

There is a monument to the patron saint of the city- St. Nicholas.

Sculpture of St. Nicholas was installed here in 2005. The monument is made of gray-blue marble. Funds for the creation of this monument were provided by ordinary citizens. Now the names of all who donated money are stamped on the memorial tablet of the monument.

St. Nicholas can not be better suited as a defender of the city. Firstly, it has long been considered the patron saint of seamen, and Nikolaev - a sea city. Secondly, the founder of Nikolayev G. Potemkin received his biggest victory in Ochakov on the day of Nikola the Winter. Therefore St. Nicholas is rightly considered the patron of Nikolayev, and the monument takes its due place in the city and in the hearts of the inhabitants.
