Church of St. Elizabeth, Khust
The church of St. Elizabeth in the town of Khust of the Transcarpathian region is one of the most significant sights of the region. It is located in the central part of the city, in a calm and beautiful place. Reformed temple was built in the 13-14 century in the style of provincial Gothic. The building has a strict and luxurious appearance, which can be traced in all its details.
Today the temple has exactly the same appearance as it was in the 15th century. It is executed in the rectangular form, has lancet windows, a tower-belltower, an arched entrance. The upper tier on the belltower is wooden and decorated with several decorative lanterns. The complex of the building is a quadrangular tower and a stone temple.
The architectural structure refers to the oldest churches of Transcarpathia.It was also used as a safe haven. Throughout the history of the temple, the local population has repeatedly used it as a shelter from enemy raids. Around the perimeter of the building is a six-meter defensive wall surrounding it from all sides. The interior of the temple is represented by fragmentary frescoes,located on its walls since the 15th century. They depict many famous people, contemporaries of the era - kings, commanders, who at one time were ranked as saints.
