Belskoye Gorodische

The Poltava region is rich in historical sights. Here, probably, the most important is not only for Ukraine, but also for eastern Europe, an ancient settlement of the Scythians, called the Belsky hillfort. According to the ancient writings of Herodotus, this place was dominated by one of the largest cities - Gelon.

Just imagine: the territory of almost 5000 hectares with its surrounding wall is almost 40 kilometers. Here were found residential houses, smithies, workshops, farm premises and altars, which indicates a high level of development of people living there.

You can get to the Belsky fortress from Poltava, at the same time visiting other interesting places - the Pottery Museum in Oposhina and, of course, Dikanka.
