Taras Shevchenko Literary and Memorial Museum

This is not just a museum, it is the cradle of Ukrainian literature. The museum in Shevchenkovo was opened in the house of Taras Shevchenko, where he lived with his parents from 1815 to 1829. The interiors of the house are close to those that they were when the poet lived.

Not far from the house is the grave of Kobzar's mother, in the former cemetery, in the center of the village, the grave of Father Grigory Shevchenko. Also, next to the museum is a house where a small Taras was trained to read and write. The literary and memorial museum is truly a family affair, after all, only the relatives of the great Kobzar led it, for a long time the director was the grandson of Taras Shevchenko - TT. Shevchenko, then his daughter VT continued the business. Shevchenko, she worked as director of the museum for more than 30 years.

In the 1990s, the museum received the status of a historical and cultural reserve "The Motherland of Taras Shevchenko". This place is imbued with the spirit of the great Kobzar. Visitors have a unique opportunity to see how the young poet lived, where his talent and desire for freedom began to emerge.
