Sretensky temple, Sulimovka

Sulimivka village was founded as a farm in 1714 by Colonel Ivan Sulima, and at the end of the 18th century became the property of a Cossack and his family. Information about the presence of the church in Sulimovka is absent until the beginning of the 20th century. Money for the temple was collected by the whole Russian Empire. The local resident Philip Kirik, as well as the family of the boyars Dzevonovsky, was engaged in the construction.

Information about the presence of the church in Sulimovka is absent until the beginning of the 20th century. Money for the temple was collected by the whole Russian Empire. The local resident Philip Kirik, as well as the family of the boyars Dzevonovsky, was engaged in the construction. Their family gave the temple a pictorial icon of Golgotha. They built a church under the guidance of architect Kabanov.
In June 1924, a Komsomol organization was opened in the village, with its appearance the church in Sulimivka was closed, and the last priest was expelled from the village. In 1930, they created a collective farm, the church was closed and ruined by that time. The iconostasis was broken, the crosses were thrown down. A granary was opened in the church.
In 1942, during the German occupation, the temple became operational again, the first divine services were held here. So the temple worked until 1959. When In the time of the Khrushchev persecutions, the Orthodox Church was again banned, the temple was closed. Only at the end of 1989 the villagers regained their spiritual center. Soon the temple was built winter altar. In 2005, the Holy Stern Church celebrated its centenary - festive liturgies were held, prayers were heard.
The Holy Sretensky temple is the architectural and spiritual pride of Sulimovka, the main temple of the city and its tourist site.
