The temple of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" operates on the basis of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra complex. It is located on the second floor of the hospital at the monastery in building №68.
History of the construction of the temple
The construction of the temple took place in several stages since the end of the 19th century. Between 1849 and 1851, a two-story building was erected, on the second floor of which a hospitalwas opened. After 15 years, added an eastern two-story wing, in which the temple was opened. Construction was completed in 1866. Two years later a wooden iconostasis was installed here. In the northern part of the cathedral there was a wooden ark with holy laras, where the patients took communion.
During the Soviet era, the temple was badly damaged. The interior decoration was lost, many ancient shrines were destroyed.
