The northern part of the Crimean peninsula attracts tourists with a unique earth fortification - Perekopsky Val. This legendary landmark, preserved from time immemorial, is located at a distance of several kilometers from the city of Armyansk. The history of the Perekopsky shaft goes far into the centuries, and scientists still do not know the exact time of its origin. With the shaft connect the important events of the Middle Ages and modern history. The first mention of this structure was found in the letters of Herodotus, dating back to the 5th century BC, when the Perekopsky Val was called "Tafros", which in Greek means "ditch".In times of the Tatar-Turkish rule, the Perekopsky Val was a fortified fortress of Or-Kapu, which in translation means "a gate in a rampart with a moat". During the civil war, fierce battles with the White Guards took place in the area of the Perekopsky Wall.Today Perekopsky Val is known, first of all, as a place of heroic battles of the Great Patriotic War. Since 1941 the Red Army troops have bravely defended their positions here. To this day, persistent battles with the fascist invaders that took place on this territory in 1943 are reminiscent of dug-outs, trenches and machine-gun cells. In the late fifties of the last century in the center of Perekopsky Val, memorial signs were erected on the common graves of soldiers. Tourists visiting these places have the opportunity to inspect the command posts of Marshal Alexander Vasilevsky and General Fyodor Tolbukhin located at a distance of several hundred meters.Every year on Perekopsky Val there is a celebration of the Great Victory over the German-fascist invaders. On the ninth of May the shaft turns into a place of worship of the heroism of the soldiers who gave their lives in the battles for the liberation of the Crimea.Throughout the postwar years, tens of thousands of weapons were found in the shaft area. This place is now striking in its scale and looks also unrelenting, as before.Perekopsky shaft, whose length is 8475 meters, and the width at the base is more than 15, is included by the United Nations in the list of the 10 most important archaeological monuments of the Crimean peninsula. The Crimean peninsula keeps many mysteries of history: countless mysterious caves, ancient ruins of fortresses, ancient towers and orthodox shrines. When visiting local attractions, you will get the opportunity to touch the ancient ages.
