Assumption Church, Ozarintsy

The Assumption Church in Ozarintsy was founded in the second half of the 19th century. According to one data, it was built before the 1900s, according to others - in 1910. But despite more than a century of history, the temple remains unfinished.

Local residents often refer to one of the legends of the region when they recall the history of the construction of the church. So, in the second half of the 19th century, parishioners traveled a lot of lords to beg for the settlement erection of a large church, since the most ancient and beloved church of Christians was destroyed by a large-scale fire. The previous building was wooden, laid back in 1719, so the parishioners of the Ozarinites demanded for themselves spacious and comfortable walls for conducting customary services. After a while, the metropolitan of the city responded to the requests of the people and sent an architect to them. But, unfortunately, the funds allocated by the city were not enough for the complete completion of the temple, and the architect left with nothing, predicting the short life of the unfinished building. His prophecy came to pass in half: the services here were held only a couple of years, and since the 1930s the temple was used as an industrial warehouse.

Today, a beautiful building with semicircular walls of the church remains unclaimed. On its pyramidal roof, the Christian cross continues to rise, but inside the church they completely lost their traditional church interior. Nearby you can see the surviving architectural monument - the church of Elizabeth, which remains active in the Ozarinets for several hundred years.

Local residents often refer to one of the legends of the region when talking about the history of this church’s construction. In the second half of the 19th century, the parishioners approached many officials in an effort to get a large cathedral built for their community, as the oldest and most beloved Christian church had been destroyed in a major fire. The previous building was made of wood and had been constructed in 1719; therefore, the residents of Ozarintsy demanded a structure with spacious and comfortable interior spaces for regular religious services. Eventually, the city’s metropolitan bishop responded to their requests and sent an architect their way. Unfortunately, however, the funds allocated by the city were not enough to complete the construction, and the architect left without achieving anything, predicting that the unfinished building would not last long. His prediction came true in part: services were held there for only a few years, and from the 1930s onward, the church was used as an industrial warehouse.

Today, the beautiful church with its semicircular walls stands unused. A Christian cross still stands on its pyramidal roof, but the interior has been completely stripped of its traditional religious elements. Not far away, you can see another well-preserved architectural landmark: the Elizabeth Church, which has been in use in Ozarintsy for hundreds of years.
