Spassky Cathedral in Pavlograd

The Cathedral of the Savior-Holy Face is an architectural monument of local significance. The history of the cathedral is amazing and filled with all sorts of events. The first stone in the construction of the cathedral was laid in 1892, the final construction was completed in 1898 with the active financial support of the honorary citizen of Pavlograd, Yakov Golubitsky.

The first stone in the construction of the cathedral  was laid in 1892, the final construction was completed in 1898 with the active financial support of the honorary citizen of Pavlograd, Yakov Golubitsky. Townspeople often call the church the name of its founder - the church of Golubitsky. The cathedral was built of stone and was three-pedestal.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a library operated at the temple, in the collections of which there were about 307 various books. In 1904 a school for children was opened at the Spassky Cathedral. During the October Revolution the church was preserved, it remained the only active temple in Pavlograd. During the bombing of World War II, the temple was badly damaged. In Soviet times, the cathedral was closed, a sports school building was attached to it, and in the temple itself a sports hall was equipped.

In 1991 the cathedral was again opened. During this period, its active  restoration, which lasted until 1995. Soon the first for 30 years divine servicewas held in the church. At the temple there is a library, a chancery, and also a Sunday school. In 2002, the artists finished painting the inner walls of the temple.

The Savior Cathedral is the center of the spiritual life of Pavlograd. It is one of the oldest temples of the city. Since 2005 the cathedral publishes its own news newspaper "Bulletin of the Pavlograd Deanery".
