The Palace of Sailors (Naryshkin's Palace)
The palace of the sailors or the Naryshkin's palace, as it is often called, was built in the beginning of the 19th century. Today it is an architectural monument of national importance.
Its creator was the talented architect Franz Boffo, on the initiative of the landowner Shidlovsky. The construction of a two-storey housewith semi-basement rooms took several years (1829-1830). In the same period, the hostess of the palace becomes Countess Maria Naryshkina, a favorite of Emperor Alexander I.
The main feature of the building was a restrained luxury of apalace character, which does not go out of fashion for many centuries. Ageless beauty of the house has become legendary. Preserved a unique grand staircase with mirrored walls of two meters high. Already from the 1860s the palace became a state property, while the interior of the palace rooms changed very slowly. Dozens of marble vases, fireplaces in expensive furnishings - all this is gradually being replaced by standard finishing of official offices, without losing delightful splendor and luxury.
In 1924, the building was opened by the Seamen's Palace, which received the honorary title of one of the most important monuments of the historic district of thecity.
