Hull Garden
The city center is a round Alexandrovsky (Corpus) garden, a favorite vacation spot for Poltava residents. It was created in accordance with a plan developed during the time of the Governor-General of Prince Alexei Kurakin. For a long time the park in Poltava was in the possession of Petrovsky Poltava Cadet Corps, because it was called the Corps. This name has been preserved to the present day.
Once upon a time there was a usual suburban wasteland. In Doğubernskaya Poltava, on the site of Round Square there was a fairground, and then it was planned to establish a trade in wine and tar.
When the city began to expand, then gradually from the square, the eight main lines diverged, like rays, to the monastery, to the churches, to other towns.
The square began to be built in 1802. In 1840 a park was built around the Monument of Glory. Officially the park was opened in 1909 in honor of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava. Many years ago trees, bushes were planted here. And at this place a round Alexandrovsky (Corpus) garden was formed, a favorite vacation spot for Poltava residents.
The hull park is a monument of landscape art. The park has eight radial alleys. Here there are about 70 species of trees and bushes, planted with flowerbeds of peonies, roses and other flowers. The area covers 6 hectares of land. On weekends, a brass band plays in the park.
