One of the most beautiful buildings in Dnepropetrovsk is the Governor's House. From the middle of the 19th century, the English clubwas located here. All the "cream" of the society of Yekaterinoslav (formerly Dnepropetrovsk) gathered in the club to forget about day-to-day affairs and worries, playing preference or the "Russian troika" or, smoking an expensive cigar, talk about politics and art. To the wives of local aristocrats and their daughters did not miss these evenings, dancing was organized for them in the club.

At the end of the 19th century, there were some changes. The city authorities appropriated this property and placed there the Ekaterinoslav Governorsand the Chancery. In connection with these events, the building of the former English Club began to be called "Governor's House". This name is so firmly entrenched in the memory of the inhabitants of the city that it still bears this name.

Since the October Revolution for fifty years, the "Governor's House" has changed dozens of owners. Here in the years of the revolution the Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies arranged its meetings, since 1919 there was a provincial executive committeein the building, and later the Teachers' House, the House of Pioneers, and since the 1970s the DOSAAF Committee. You can imagine how tired the house of this constant change of owners, each of which tried to remake and arrange everything in its own way. But already in 1983 the house was left without inhabitants, lighting and heating. The monument of architecture of national importance by the 80s of the 20th century was abandoned and no one needed, he even wanted to be demolished. However, in 1997 the building was restored.

Impressive today is the appearance of the building. In its architecture elements of the English Gothic style are used. "The Governor's House" has two floors, but the central part of it is increased to three. The windows of the ground floor of the "House" are ring-shaped, the second - lancet. Inside the building there is a marble finish.

"The Governor's House" became an ornament of the central avenue of Karl Marx, and the center of Dnipropetrovsk itself.
