Trinity Church
Be sure to visit the village of Dikanka, which is imbued with the spirit of the Cossacks era, and visit the Holy Trinity Church.
This cross-domed church was built in the distant 1780 in the Baroque style. The two-level dome is effectively distinguished against the background of four semi-cupolas located lower. A low bell tower was added to the side of the church a year later. The walls of the Trinity shrine are decorated with stucco and other decorative elements. All three entrances to the church are framed by columns with Corinthian orders at their sides. They are directed to the east, north and south. From the west, the church is equipped with a semicircular pediment. Although the Trinity Church has the form of a cross, all proportions were observed during its erection. It is believed that this temple was built on the site of a wooden shrine, so it seems that it seems to rise above the ground level. With the advent of the church, which was promoted by the grandson of the Cossack sergeant Pavel Kochubey, the history of the stone churches of Dikanka began.
Go inside the Holy Trinity Church. There is a temple-museum. Over the relics are painted walls. Pictures of scenes from the Bible, traditions and faces of saints - all works are made by local artists. Particularly striking in its beauty is the dome paintings, which are harmoniously combined with the wall sculpting.
The Holy Trinity Church was built during the Cossack battles. Pay attention to such elements as narrow windows, a towering head for viewing - all indicate the use of the shrine for defensive purposes. Especially this is evidenced by two secret passages of the temple. One of them eventually connects to the system of underground passages of the village. The second passage directly from the Trinity Church leads to the crypt Kochubeev, which is located near it. In addition, the Holy Trinity Church took part in the social life of the village. At the church, a Sunday school was built, where only good students were accepted.
The best time of year for visiting Dikanka is the flowering period of cherry trees, which grows a lot in this wonderful town.
