Holy Trinity Monastery

A bright representative of medieval architecture in Ukraine is the Holy Trinity Monastery, located in the village Mezhirichi. This settlement is located in the suburb of Ostrog. The first mention of the village is found in the chronicles, dated 1386 year. A true decoration of the monastery is the Trinity Church, where the icon of the Mother of God of the 14th century is kept.

A bright representative of medieval architecture in Ukraine is the Holy Trinity Monastery, located in the village Mezhirichi. This settlement is located in the suburb of Ostrog. The first mention of the village is found in the chronicles, dated 1386 year.

A true decoration of the monastery is the Trinity Church, where the icon of the Mother of God of the 14th century is kept. This icon was received by the Ostrozhsky princes as a gift from the Ecumenical Patriarch for his loyalty to the holy Orthodoxy. To this day, documentary evidence has been preserved that the holy image of God's mother the princes always took with them on their campaigns.

Until the 17th century the icon was in the possession of the princes Ostrozhsky and was inherited from generation to generation. In the 17th century, Prince Janusz Ostrozky gave the icon to the monastery. After that, in 1886, Empress Maria Alexandrovna presented a specially made for this shrine salary, which adorned 12 emeralds. In 1915, the icon was transported to Kharkov, but three years later it was returned.

There are many real stories that testify how the miraculous icon helped the prayers, healed the sick and granted the heirs to childless families.

The monastery is built in the classical traditions of Orthodox architecture. It is a Kremlin with a vast internal territory, surrounded by ancient fortress walls. Inside the complex are various buildings, the entrance to some of them is accessible to tourists.

Under the walls of the Holy Trinity Monastery there is an ancient necropolis. On the right side of the central entrance to the monastery you can see a unique oven built of red brick. Consists of a furnace of four pillars, which are installed in the form of a square and are united by high arches. The painting, executed in the style of the Renaissance, adorns the dome of these arches. To the right of the furnace there is a unique Zaslavskaya Brama. The inner courtyard of the Trinity Cathedral is reminiscent of the Epiphany Cathedral, which is also located in Ostroh.

The monastery was almost completely destroyed during the fire of 1820. Then a large part of the library burned, in which there were more than 2000 books.

Today Mezhyrichy Holy Trinity Monastery is active, tourists from different countries come to see its beauty and feel the spiritual atmosphere of its surroundings.

The Holy Trinity Monastery is located on Naberezhnaya Street. The village Mezhirich is located 4 kilometers from Ostrog. From Ostrog there are minibuses and regular buses to Mezhirich. You can get to the monastery also on your own car, heading towards Ostroh along the Rivne-Ostrog highway, and then turning right to Mezhyrich.
