Pharmacy Museum, Kiev
On one of the Kiev streets near the gate of the Florovsky Monastery there is an inconspicuous one-story building, of which few know. Here is an unusual pharmacy - a pharmacy museum.
In 1728, it became the first private pharmacy in Kiev. They traded various drugs, as well as creams, powder, perfume and ink, which at that time could only be purchased in similar pharmaceutical institutions. As a museum, this building opened its doors in 1988. His exposition was collected literally from the corners of the country. And now in 12 halls of the museum, where there are about 3 thousand curious exhibits, everyone can get acquainted with the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals in Ukraine.
The pharmacy-museum completely recreated the interior of pharmacies of the period 18-19 centuries. Here you can even look into the basement rooms, where there are installations of the alchemist's laboratory, a monastic cell, in which healed the sickness with the help of herbs and prayers, as well as the hut of a sorceress. Glassed display cases store a variety of ancient devices, tools and flasks with strange medicines and tinctures. The pharmacy-museum itself continues to work, directly, as a pharmacy. Of course, you can not buy the usual medicines here, but you can easily buy various soaps according to the old recipe.
