In April 2017, a giant kraken sculpture was sunk with a WWII ship near the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean as the birthplace of a new coral ecosystem.

The project called BVI Art Reef is the work of the company NGO Unite BVI together with a group of artists Secret Samurai Productions, a group of social entrepreneurship Maverick1000 and non-profit educational organization Beneath the Waves. "It is assumed that in a short time a ship and sculpture will attract a huge number of sea creatures. Everything from corals to sea sponges, sharks and turtles will settle here ", - says Clive Petrovich, one of the project leaders.

In addition, the creators of the BVI Art Reef hope that the kraken and the ship will draw to the British Virgin Islands the attention of dive tourists and a new generation of people who are keen on preserving the ocean. The ship was specially prepared and cleaned in accordance with the highest standards, which provided its safety for the ocean and its inhabitants, and for divers.
