Scientists sound the alarm: super bacteria are resistant to all known science antibiotics

According to the studies, super bacteria have a special gene that encodes the enzyme metal-beta-lactamase. Thanks to this enzyme, bacteria become immune to antibiotics, including the so-called "antibiotics of the last hope." Among the super bacteria are pneumococci, Staphylococcus aureus and several others.

In the appearance of super bacteria, it is not the radiation and the cunning of evil geniuses that are to blame. Strangely enough, but the cause of their emergence were the people themselves, and the main sources of invulnerable microorganisms were livestock enterprises and hospitals. In recent decades, there has been a massive use of antibiotics in livestock, the sale of these drugs, often not all the necessary clinical trials, and uncontrolled treatment with them. All this led to the fact that bacteria as a result of constant contact with the drugs mutated and acquired new genes. The newly emerged microorganisms have become resistant to antibiotic drugs, including those that the World Health Organization (WHO) refers to drugs that constitute the "last hope of humanity".

Because of the uncontrolled use of antibiotics around the world, WHO proposed to divide all antibiotics created to date into three groups. The first included drugs designed to combat common inflammatory and infectious diseases. The second included antibiotics, designed to combat a limited range of microorganisms. Well, in the third there was a small amount of drugs that WHO calls for using only as a last resort. This is due to the fact that if microorganisms are immune to this last group of antibiotics, then nothing can be saved.

That super bacteria just proved to be resistant to this last group of antibiotics. They were first discovered in India, in the city of New Delhi in 2009, and since then they have kept the entire medical world in suspense. In addition to India, reliable cases of detection of super-bacteria have been recorded in medical institutions in the United States and Great Britain, as well as in neighboring Pakistan. As experts believe, the emergence of superbugs in India is not accidental: in this country there is no proper state control over the turnover and use of antibiotics. Therefore, in the pharmaceutical market of India, antibiotics can often be found that have not passed the necessary clinical trials or even banned for one reason or another in countries of Europe and the United States.

But not only India is a region of the emergence of superbugs. Most reports of the discovery of new varieties of these unusually resistant microorganisms come from hospital facilities in developed countries such as the US and the UK. Not so long ago in the USA a new strain of pneumococci, causing the development of pneumonia, was discovered. As reported by American scientists, these varieties of microorganisms were resistant to all available at the moment in the arsenal of mankind antibiotics.

It is worth noting that the scientific world is still ambiguous in assessing what is happening. Optimists urge not to panic and believe that pharmaceutical campaigns will soon devise new drugs that can defeat super-bacteria. And some scientists believe that the new microorganisms are able to return humanity in the era of the Middle Ages, when people were powerless against terrible diseases.
