From August 29 to September 8 will be the jubilee 75th Venice Film Festival. This year the program turned out to be extremely impressive: there are regulars of the Cannes Film Festival, as well as directors whose films will remind you about themselves again at the height of the award season. We have selected 10 films and 1 TV series for which we expect the most premieres.

Man on the Moon (2018)/First Man

Behind the shoulders of one of the main talents of American cinema, Damien Schazzel, there are already 2 cult films - a merciless musical thriller about the talent and success of "Obsession" and breaking hearts zikl "La La Land". A new picture of Shazzell is the baiopik of Neil Armstrong, the first person to step onto the surface of the Moon. Starring is Ryan Gosling, for whom the Venice Film Festival can be the starting point on the road to the Oscar, as it was with Emma Stone two years ago. Of course, everything looks fine on paper, but we are afraid that the absence of Shazel in the list of writers would affect the quality of the film.

Brothers Sisters (2018)/The Sisters Brothers

Jacques Odiar's previous film "Dipan" was awarded to Coen brothers (they will be further on the list) of the "Golden Palm Branch" in 2015 - then the decision seemed stupid, and now - prophetic. In the English-language debut, the Frenchman, who decided for the first time in his career to explore the genre of the western, gathered a whole galaxy of first-magnitude stars. Promise is not the "male" movie about cowboys, but the preparation of the genre and the black comedy. We can only hope for the best and believe that the film will have chances to compete for Oscars.

One Western in the competition is already a rarity. This year, for the "Golden Lion" will fight as many as two Westerns - an event that, to be sure, is truly exceptional. "Ballad Buster Scruggs" was conceived mini-series Netflix for 6 series, each of which will be a new story. Unfortunately, the Cohen brothers puffed in the editing room and reduced the timekeeping to 2 hours, respectively, returning the usual format of the feature film. It remains to be hoped that, along with extra minutes, the brothers did not cut out the roles of famous actors. Fortunately, there are enough stars in the film.

The last film of Yurgos Lantimos was shared even by his devoted fans: there was enough absurdity in him , but suddenly there were allusions to the work of Stanley Kubrick and Michael Haneke. In the new Greek film again traced the influence of Kubrick: it seems that Lantimos decided to withdraw his version of "Barry Lyndon." In the center of the plot is the love triangle of the XVIII century: Queen Anne, her close friend Sara and the young servant Abigail, whose arrival at the palace begins a real struggle for the right to become a favorite.

Great Mike Lee, who throughout the career alternates between historical and modern films, decided not to go far t last scene and then took a movie about the middle of the XIX century in the UK. This time, in the focus of the master, the famous Manchester massacre of 1819, in which about 500 people were wounded in the clash of protesters because of the lack of workers' voting rights with the police. The project is funded by Amazon giant, so you can be sure that the era and scale scenes will be recreated qualitatively.

A real long-term construction and a dream project of Orson Welles, with whom he raved about the last years of his life. The picture is dedicated to the genius director, who tries to defend the rights to his masterpiece all the way and to finish the shooting - he is prevented by Hollywood himself. Looking at Wells's career, or rather, his constant conflicts with large studios, it's not hard to guess why he was so zealously trying to finish the film. Unfortunately, the postproduction of the picture was completed only this year on the personal records of the director. In January, a private show was held, which was attended by Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Johnson. In May, everyone was waiting for the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, but they did not wait for the scandal of the festival's directorate with Netflix.

If Zahler does not change his style, then we are waiting for three hours of brutal fighting with broken skulls, liter of blood and broken bones like matches. What else can you dream about?

Nemesha's new film is again historical - it's true, this time instead of escaping from an infernal concentration camp in the director's lens, the life of a young girl from a shelter against the backdrop of a troubled Europe of 1913. "Sunset" should put all the dots on the "i", finally giving us a convincing answer: was the Hungarian a couple of years ago, or is it really one of the main world directors in front of us?

About the new film, almost nothing is known: it seems like there will be a drama with a time interval from 1999 to the present day about how a young girl is going through a terrible tragedy, and then finds the strength to become a pop star. It sounds interesting, and along with the photos, where Natalie Portman paces in rock dresses, it's one of the most anticipated films of the year.

The long-awaited adaptation of the world bestseller by Helena Ferrante - four books, combined in a cycle with the title "Neapolitan Quartet". In the center of the plot is a 60-year history of relations between two girlfriends, Lena and Lila, who grew up in the poor quarter of Naples. Their strange friendship alternates with episodes of anger, love, envy and mutual help. At the Venice Film Festival the first two episodes will be shown - in total 4 seasons are planned for 8 episodes in each. The premiere at the IEE will be held this fall. They say the series turned out to be so authentic that, due to a specific Neapolitan dialect, even in Italy it will be broadcast with subtitles.
