Feodosia is located in the south-eastern part of the Crimean peninsula, on the border between the Crimean steppe and the mountainous region. The nature of these places is very different from the nature of the Southern coast of Crimea.

The relief of the terrain to some extent determines the climate of Feodosia and its nature. The city is open to severe winter winds and spring dry winds. The winds create sharp temperature fluctuations during the winter months, and in the spring they often dry up the soil and hamper the development of vegetation. But the south-eastern coast of the Crimea and the surroundings of Feodosia also have their attractiveness. The sensation of vastness, the vast expanse of the sea element and distant steppe horizons creates an attractive charm to the landscape of Feodosia.

The Great Feodosiya Square (the city and administratively subordinate 16 settlements including the urban settlements of Primorsky, Ordzhonikidze, Koktebel, Kurortnoe, Shchebetovka, Krasnokamenka) - more than 350 sq. km. It stretches along the southeastern coast of the Crimean peninsula for 40 km. Mountain relief prevails in its western part.

Between the coastal villages of Koktebel and Kurortnoe there is the ancient extinct volcano Karadag ("Black Mountain") - one of the most amazing places on the peninsula, a museum created by nature. This is the only ancient volcano in Eastern Europe, which has preserved the external features of its origin. Submarine and surface eruptions occurred here in the mid-Jurassic period. The mountain group of Karadag includes several ridges and independent peaks. Its highest point is Mount Svyataya (576 m). In 1979, the Karadag State Reserve was established. On Karadag there are more than 100 minerals and their varieties, including semiprecious stones - carnelian, opal, agate, amethyst, rock crystal. The richest plant world is more than a thousand species of vascular plants including 50 species of endemic plants. In the Red Book of Ukraine juniper is high, pistachio is a tusk, hawthorn Poyarkova. Flora of the coastal water area - 454 species of plants. Fauna - 28 species of mammals, 184 species of birds, 13 species of reptiles and amphibians, 1900 - invertebrates. In the coastal strip there are 900 species of animals including 80 species of fish. The mountain range of Karadag is confined to the Koktebel and Otuz valleys.

The Uzun-Syrt mountain, which covers the Barakol valley from the north and northeast, is unique in the ascending air currents. This place became the cradle of domestic gliding. In the 20-30-ies. XX century. on the mountain Uzun-Syrt worked glider school, competitions gliders were held, tests of new gliders. Many well-known Soviet pilots, designers of aviation and rocket and space technology started their way to heaven here.

In the north and north-east of the Feodosia region, the Crimean mountains give way to a hilly plain. In the east, Great Feodosia adjoins the Akmonaisk Isthmus - the natural boundary of the Kerch Peninsula.

There are several mud lakes to the east of Feodosia. Basically, they are small, high temperature, high rate of evaporation of water create an extremely high concentration of chemicals and microelements, including organic origin. This mud is oily, viscous, black, with the smell of hydrogen sulfide. It consists of iron oxide, potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium and other elements. Used dirt for the treatment of joints, injuries and wounds.

    1. Krasnokutsky Dendropark by right is considered one of the best nature reserves of this kind in the territory of Ukraine. It was founded on the site of the Peter and Paul monastery. The monastery, built shortly after the founding of the Red Kut, lasted almost 100 years, after which, on the orders of Catherine II, it was closed. The lands were taken over by Nazar Aleksandrovich Karazin.
