Apple Day in England is a major celebration of health for all apple lovers.

Although you will be offered more than just apples to enjoy, everything will be presented to you in order. Apple Day is a British festival that has become a well-established tradition since 1990. The initiator of this festival is the charitable organization Common Ground.
The official date for celebrating Apple Day is traditionally October 21st, but celebrations often continue until November, with different organizations (and families) holding events on various days. The programs vary depending on the organizers, but one thing remains constant: there is an abundance of apples—hundreds of different varieties—to sample, buy, and learn about. Visitors can enjoy tastings, purchase fruits and saplings, and attend lectures on apple care and the health benefits of eating apples (remember, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”!). Of course, there is also a whole menu of dishes made with apples—hot meals, salads, desserts, drinks (especially cider!), and many other delicious treats. In general, attending such events is very informative. You get to try varieties of apples that you would never find in stores or markets, and you learn about their history and legends. Gardeners can also receive comprehensive advice on how to prevent apple tree diseases and take care of different apple varieties.

You can try every single variety of apple!

Entertainment activities during Apple Day also often involve apples—there are archery competitions targeting apple targets, various contests, and apple carving events (similar to pumpkin carving, but with apples). Another popular activity is competing to cut the longest strip of apple skin. The goal is to remove the skin in a spiral pattern, making the resulting strip as thin and long as possible. A record of 10 meters and 66 centimeters was set in 2006; in 1976, Katie Wolfer managed to cut a 52-meter-and-51-centimeter-long strip—she spent over 11 hours on it!

In short, different cities, villages, farms, schools, supermarkets, and other organizations designate their own autumn days for Apple Day and celebrate it in their own ways. You could say that this is a day dedicated to health—and plenty of vitamins and good spirits!
