Where is the best place to go for a vacation in September?
First and foremost, you need to determine the purpose of your vacation. If you don’t seek a tan and instead want to recharge after a busy work year, you can safely head to any European resort before September 20. Starting in October, the Mediterranean region begins to lose its warmth, so the water temperatures will still be suitable for swimming, even if the weather turns cloudy—something you’ll definitely experience at least twice during your vacation in Crimea, Croatia, Bulgaria, or any other country along the southern Black Sea coast.
So, where exactly can you go in September?
- In terms of comfort, Cyprus comes top of the list. This island, like New Zealand, has one of the healthiest climates. By September, the heat has subsided, but it’s still far from cold. The average temperature throughout the month is around 29–32 degrees Celsius. The sea is also quite warm (around 26 degrees), and the chances of rainfall are minimal. What more could you ask for for an ideal vacation? Except perhaps for a more active tourist infrastructure… September in Cyprus is considered a full-fledged tourist season.

Cyprus

Famagusta is a port city on the southeastern coast of Cyprus.

Pafoс is the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite.
- Second on the list are the Greek islands. The most popular ones, Rhodes and Kos, have similar weather to sunny Cyprus. The only difference is that it’s slightly cooler there since they are located further north. If you decide to visit Greece in late September, bring some warm clothes for evening activities.

Santorini is essentially an island made up of the remnants of a volcanic eruption, covered in solidified lava.

Navagio is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

Crete is the largest Greek island.

Pilos is an ancient city in Messenia.

- Third on the list is Turkey. In September, low prices attract tourists there since the peak season for both tourism and temperatures usually occurs in July and August. It’s still quite warm during this time (+29 degrees Celsius), but the sea temperature begins to drop (around 23–26 degrees). Light rainfall is possible, though not torrential downpours; however, cloudy weather might make staying indoors unpleasant. To avoid rain, it’s best to travel to Turkey in the first half of September. The only downside is that Turkish staff may be less enthusiastic due to the end of the high-season period, resulting in slightly lower service quality.

Antalya is the tourist capital of Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.

Izmir is Turkey’s third-largest city.

- Fourth on the list is Egypt. In September, the scorching heat (+40 degrees Celsius) begins to subside, though it’s still warm enough to enjoy outdoor activities. The average air temperature is around 32 degrees Celsius, and the water temperature is +28 degrees. Rainfall is virtually non-existent in September; as October approaches, the weather becomes even more pleasant. And don’t worry about political unrest in Egypt—tourists are never disturbed there, especially these days when the country’s reputation has been damaged.

- Finally, on the fifth and last place in our list of the best destinations for September vacations are Morocco and Tunisia. In these countries, the temperature remains fairly pleasant throughout September: around +30 degrees Celsius for the air and +24 degrees for the sea. However, there are two significant drawbacks. First, rainfall becomes more frequent, and second, what can you do on cloudy days in Tunisia? Unfortunately, there aren’t many activities available, so the vacation might turn out to be boring. That’s why Tunisia ranks last on this list.
