Rudnev Square

The square is crossed by Moskovsky Prospekt. Nearby the Kharkov River flows and the historical districts of the city are located: Lopan Arrow, Levada, Horse Market. Today, the area is planted with trees and built around the perimeter of high-rise buildings. In 2008, the Rudnev Square was completely restored and landscaped. Here, a fountain has worked, which did not work for 15 years. Benches and new night lights were installed, a children's playground was equipped. The monument to the hero of the Civil War, Nikolai Rudnev, was also repaired. It occurred at the end of the XVIII century on the site of the former ramparts.

It was first called Mikhailovskaya, named after the church here, then the Haymarket, because horse rides were held here, later on the square were arranged "parade parks"; and folk festivities. In 1882, the square began to be called Skobelevskaya, in honor of General MD Skobelev, who distinguished himself during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877 - 1878. She received her present nun in 1919, when the hero of the civil war NA Rudnev was buried in the square. In 1889, 1902, a large court building was built on the square in the square under the project of the architect A. Beketov and with the participation of the architects Yu. Tsaune and V. Khrustalev.

July 20, 1927 in the eastern part of the square in the presence of delegates of the IV All-Ukrainian Congress of Builders, a solemn laying of the club of builders was held. The project of the building was developed by the architects J. A. Steinberg, I. Mileenis, I. Malozemov. In 1958 the club was reconstructed and reorganized into the Palace of Culture of Builders named after AM Gorky. The new reconstruction of the Palace of Culture of Builders was carried out in 1975 by the architect NF Chernomorchenko. On the square there is also a club of the production association of footwear enterprises and a library for children and youth named after NK Krupskaya, serving more than two and a half thousand young readers.

In December 1959 a monument to the talented organizer and commander of the Red Army, NA Rudnev, was constructed near the exit of the square on Moskovsky Prospekt, built on the project of the sculptor V.P. Volovik and the architect F. D. Yakimenko. p>

In the XVIII century in the area of ​​the current square was the entrance to Kharkov. At the end of the century there, on the site of the former ramparts, there was a square. Initially, it was called Mikhailovskaya — by the name of the St. Michael Church (built in 1787 by the project of PA Yaroslavsky), located in the southern part of the square.

Since 1814 on the square the trade in hay was concentrated and Mikhailovskaya got the second name — Sennaya.

In 1833 the bazaar was transferred to the territory of the current Central Market. On the liberated southern part, folk festivities were held, as well as military exercises and parades. Nearby there were barracks.

In 1886 the square was named Skobelevskaya — in honor of General M. D. Skobelev.

February 9, 1919 in the square was buried NA Rudnev (his remains were transported from Tsaritsyn). The square received his name.
