Opera House in Lviv
Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater. S.Krushelnytska & ndash; It was a real work of Neo-Renaissance art that became a decoration not only of Lviv, but of all Europe.
His architectural ensemble required a special arrangement, so it was decided to build it on the central avenue of the city, despite the fact that here the river Poltva flowed. The river was taken to the collector, and concrete foundations were used for the foundation for the first time in Europe.

The first stone in the foundation of the Opera House was laid in 1897. The project of the theater was engaged, the architect at that time, an architect in Europe & ndash; Zygmunt Gorgolevsky. The construction of the theater lasts about three years, at the expense of the city treasury and ordinary citizens of the then Lviv and its outskirts. The cost of building the theater was 2.4 million Austrian crowns.

The best masters of Lviv and all of Europe worked on the construction and finishing: P.Viitovich, T. Baronch, A.Popel, T. Popel, E.Pech, T.Ribkovsky, M.Gerasimovich, S.Dembitsky, Z. Rozvadovsky, S. Reyhan.
The magnificent facade of the building is decorated with a rich sculptural decoration: columns, niches, balustrades. Over the main eaves of the facade, eight muses rise, above them the composition & bdquo; Joys and Suffocations of Life & rdquo ;. The fronton ends with a triad of bronze statues of Genius drama, comedy, tragedy, and centered & ndash; Glory, with a golden palm branch in the hands.

The interior of the theater is also striking in its beauty. When decorating, gilt was used (several kilograms of gold went), multicolored marble, murals and a remarkable sculpture. At the premiere of the performances you can see a wonderful scenic curtain & bdquo; Parnassus & rdquo; (1900), the work of the famous painter Heinrich Semiradsky. This creation is & ndash; allegorical interpretation of the meaning of human life in the figures of Parnassus. The Great City Theater (since the Lvov Opera Theater was called until 1939) opens on October 4, 1900.

At the grand opening, the whole elite of the then art and delegations from different European theaters gathers. On this day at the theater premiere of the lyric-dramatic opera & bdquo; Janek & rdquo; V.Zhelensky & ndash; about the life of the Carpathian Verkhovyntsi. The main party is sung by an outstanding Ukrainian tenor & ndash; Alexander Mishuga.
Throughout the history of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater, outstanding personalities worked at different times, including Solomiya Krushelnytska, Alexander Mishuga, Henryk Semiradsky and many others. Through their artistic work they contributed to the national culture of Ukraine and the history of the Lviv Opera Theater.
