The most mysterious lake in Ukraine is the Dead Lake

Travels in our country can cause a wide variety of feelings. Visiting the most beautiful places of Ukraine, we feel admiration for our native beauties, the joy of rest and travel, and even some distrust of the fact that incredibly beautiful, sometimes exciting places are in our country.

But not far from Lviv, in the Skole district there is one of the most mysterious and fascinating lakes - Lake Dead.

Naturally, the name of this reservoir is in no way connected with tragic events or mystical rites. In general terms, the name of this lake was given by nature itself.

The Dead Lake can be considered useful and dangerous at the same time. A large amount of hydrogen sulphide, which is contained in the waters of the Dead, does not allow the development of life in this pond, but air that is enriched with a small amount of hydrogen sulfide vapor and clear lake water have a beneficial effect on the state of the human nervous system. Therefore, to visit this lake is not only due to idle curiosity, but also to improve your health.

By the way, it's quite easy to get to Lake Dead. Despite the fact that this reservoir belongs to high-mountain lakes, it is only 200-300 meters to walk to the lake. This path lies through the picturesque landscapes of the Skole Beskids National Park. Accompanied by the unique in form of mountains, and green lawns of the Carpathians, you will not notice how you will end up near Dead Lake. Cascades of the waterfall Kamyanka, near which the lake is located, can serve as an orientation.

If you describe the lake in one word, the first thing that comes to mind is mysticism. Transparent water in conjunction with marsh thickets, the complete absence of fish, fry and even mosquitoes suggest a little scary thoughts. But it's only in the first couple of minutes. In fact, Lake Dead is a lake with perfectly clear water. Local people say that even at a depth of 2 meters you can see the lost button. Some tourists checked this fact, and fully confirm it.

Such amphibious water with mountain air is very popular with amphibious newts, toads, lizards and vipers that live on the shores of Dead Lake.

The shores of the lake are rather gentle, marshy, covered with moss and reeds characteristic of swampy lakes. But among the rather scarce plant world on the banks of the Dead one can find a real treasure - marsh cranberry, or a crane. This berry is so much near the lake that instead of the slightly terrifying name Dead, the lake in parallel received the second name Crane.

Of course, the lake Crane or Dead is not so beautiful lake, as for example Sinevir or Svityaz. This is a small lake, about 50 meters long. But the immediate beauty of the lake lies in its atmosphere. Despite the mighty waterfalls, alpine glades and stony mountains, the main attraction of the Skolevsky Beskidy Park is the lake Dead. Tourists, who once visited the lake, keep for a long time the atmosphere of mystery, mysticism and silent charm that the lake gave them. We do not know if you will like this lake, but you will not remain indifferent to it.

You can get directly to the Skole Beskydy National Park by private and public transport. Every day from Lvov bus station there is a bus to Skole (cost is about 50-60 hryvnia).

Traveling by private car from Lviv to Skole, at the entrance to the city turn left, following the signs. As a rule, the fare is paid, but not in season it is possible to save money, especially if there is no guard at the post.
