Nevitsky Castle, Nevitskoe

Near the village of Nevitskoye in Transcarpathia, 12 km from Uzhgorod there is a real fairy-tale castle-fortress. It stands in the midst of a forest on a high mountain, which is washed by the stream of Vaida. Climbing the serpentine, you can see a medieval castle, whose history begins in the 12th century. They were owned by Hungarian rulers. Time has not spared the majestic fortress, but here restoration is under wayand the structure acquires its former grandeur and power.

Defensive fortifications of the castle include a wall with four towers, two shafts and a moat between them. From the castle wall offers a wonderful view of the green valley of the river Uzh.

One of the oldest castles in Ukraine is covered with a lot of legends. Previously, it was called the Castle of Bride or Castle of Brides. The rumor ascribes its construction to not even the Hungarian nobility, but to the Russian princess. Allegedly the fortress was built to protect the bride. According to another version, young girls from noble families were buried in an impenetrable fortress. At the foot of the mountain, where the castle is located, you can see a column of volcanic tuff- Nevitsky Pole. There is a tradition that in times of paganism, women who wanted to have children came to worship him.
