History of Chervonograd settlement

The history of this area begins back in the 9th century. It was then, according to written sources, that the first wooden fortifications appeared on the lands of modern Ternopil region. The name of the settlement Chervonograd arose naturally - from the color of the soil, which in rainy weather here is painted in a rich reddish-red hue. For a long time Chervonograd was the residence of Russian princes. Further, the history of the development of the city is connected with the well-known family of Koryatovich and Buchatsky-Yazlovetsky. And already in the first half of the 15th century Chervonograd received a royal status and Magdeburg law. This area was especially attractive in the beginning of the 17th century, when the Dominican Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built here with the help of the Lisetsky family.

In 1970, this settlement was removed from the official list of Ukrainian cities, towns and villages.

History of the castle of Chervonohrad

At the beginning of the 17th century, thanks to the old tycoon of Danilovichi, the beautiful Chervonohrad Castle appeared on the red lands of Ternopil region, it is also known as the Chervonogorodsky castle. Unfortunately, the fortress suffered considerable destruction from the Turkish invasions, but already in the years 1820-1840 it was restored by noble representatives of the genus Poninsky. It was then on the hill grew a palace in the style of neo-Gothic. The main decoration of the luxurious palace was the castle towers, crowned with crenellated crowns. Until now remains the secret of the authorship of the fortress project. According to one data, the architect was a Polish Tomasz Matlovski. Others call the author of the project Lviv architect Julian Zakharevich.

Special attraction to the modern ruins of the old castle is attached to underground passages, which, say local residents, you can get to the cave "Piglet". According to legend, in this cave once lived a monk, and today it is guarded by a headless knight. Like, this is not just a cave, but the "Hall of the Last Judgment", while the underground passages are "the way to hell." However, mystical stories quite fit this area, where the land is red, the castle towers are shrouded in fog, and the mysterious silence is disturbed only by the noise of the Dzhurin waterfall, which is near the ruins.

It is interesting that in the walls of the Chervonohrad Fortress in the 80s of the 16th century Mikhail Khmelnitsky, the father of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, took his wedding off.

No less mysterious is the route that you can get to this mystical city. You can get to the red lands of Chervonograd by reaching the village of Nagiryan or Nyrkov. And from there you will have to travel on your own or on the roads.
