Svirzhsky Castle

On the green hill, the red tile glistens irresistibly on the sun, the mighty walls of the famous architectural monument of the 16th and 17th centuries are white & ndash; Svirzhsky Castle. Already at the entrance to the village of Svirzh you can see how beautiful the castle looks against the background of nature. The eye can not be torn!

The written mention of Svirzh dates back to 1427, when the village was still a city.

Until the 19th century the castle was the birthplace of the Counts of Zetner. They gave the castle a modern look & ndash; a closed rectangle with corner towers, also they laid a park with ponds. Individual elements of the castle gave him a Baroque style. Count Robert Lamezan Selans did much to renovate the interior of the palace and the entire castle: it was equipped with valuable furniture, paintings. During the First World War in 1914, the castle was burned, only walls remained. The twentieth century was troubled for the castle & ndash; two world wars caused a lot of losses, the castle structures were continually destroyed and burned, then renewed again.

Today the Svirzhsky Castle & ndash;

this is one of the most interesting places in the Lviv region, it is included in the popular tourist route & Golden Horseshoe & raquo; & ndash; excursions to medieval defense monasteries and castles.
