The building of the Collegiate Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the few cult buildings in Ivano-Frankivsk, which is currently not used for its intended purpose. In Soviet times, the building was given to the geological museum, then to the art museum. And till now the works of local mastersare exhibited in the premises of the former temple. Today, here is the Art Museum.

The building itself was built by Andrzej Pototsky, the founder of Stanislavov- this name was worn by Ivano-Frankivsk in the old days. Taking up the construction of the fortress walls, Hetman Potocki immediately ordered the erection of the Roman Catholic Church. At the same time, the architect of this project conceived it as the Potocki's tomb.

The exact date of foundation of the church remained unknown.According to some reports, the bell tower was erected at the end of the 18th century. We built it on a grand scale: the bell weighed more than two tons! However, in the Soviet times the bell tower, unfortunately, was destroyed. Later it was restored, but rebuilt in 2000.

After visiting the building of the former church, you will be able to wonder at the basilica, built in the Baroque style, admire the ancient frescoes, samples of Galician icon painting, and Western Ukrainian painting.
