National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve Lychakiv Cemetery

They say, going to the Lychakiv cemetery in the evening, you can meet a dark figure of a woman, strolling along the street near the cemetery. Lviv people say that once a brave young man tried to talk to this woman, but it turned out that she had no face. Unknown figure of a woman is not the last secret Lychakiv cemetery. If you collect all the legends that shrouded this place, their number is not inferior to the number of interesting places that are worth seeing in the museum-preserve. So, one of the most interesting is the monument to the artist Arthur Grothger, when in love with Wanda Monnet. The young couple met at the ball and since then almost never parted. Lovers often walked on Lychakiv, and Arthur once said that he would like to stay here forever. Therefore, when at the age of thirteen a person died of tuberculosis in France, Wanda sold all her valuable things to transport her beloved body to Lviv and bury it on Lychakiv. Today, the legend of the eternal love of Wanda and ArtCheers are told in all corners of Lviv, and some even claim to have seen two young people who are walking on Lychakiv, holding hands.
However, the most popular place on the Lychakiv cemetery is the grave of the bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, miracle-worker Nikolai Chernetsky. There are always candles on it, always fresh flowers. People believe that after visiting the miracle-worker, one can be healed. Some come to the grave to ask for help, to receive hope.
Along with romantic and mystical stories, Lychakiv cemetery is a real treasure trove of unique sculptures and tombstones. The first burials here occurred in the 13th century, and the cemetery itself was officially laid in 1786. Now there are three thousand tombstones, sponsored by Anton and Johann Shimzerov, Hartman Witwer, Paul Eutele, Sergei Litvinenko, Tadeusz Baronch, Grigory Kuznevich and others. There are also graves of such famous people as Ivan Franko, Markiyan Shashkevich, Maria Konopnitskaya, Ivan Kripyakevich, Irina Wilde, Igor Bilozir, Victor Chukarin and others. The well-known Ukrainian journalist Grigory Gongadze is also buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.
It's very easy to get to the Lychakivka cemetery. It is located one and a half kilometers from the center of Lviv and by public transport you can easily get here. You do not have to wander independently by the museum-reserve, because on Lychakiv conducted interesting and interesting excursions.
