Fountain Mirror Stream
Not many people now remember the history of these places. A few centuries ago there was a cemetery here. In the 18th century a church was built on its territory.First it was erected from a tree and then made a stone one. But the city grew rapidly, residential quarters did not have enough space. Then the cemetery was abolished. And the church itself, on the contrary, was completed - in size it became the second in the city after the Assumption Cathedral. With the advent of Soviet power, the religious structure was demolished. Instead of a temple, they planned to build a musical theater, where a circus, a theater and a cinema were located. However, these plans were not destined to be realized.
The territory of the former cemetery was empty. It was decided to use it as an open-air trolleybus park. But the panorama was still completely unpresentable. And now, seeing the wasteland from the window of the regional committee, Khrushchev, ostensibly, scolded the head of the Kharkov communists for the sad landscape. As a result of the discussion, it was decided to erect a fountain-gazebo at this place. Whether this legend is true is now difficult to say.
In Soviet times, the square was laid by people's efforts. Near the gazebo a swimming pool was built, which was first surrounded with brick, and then with a granite fence. Now Mirror stream is one of the most popular places, where people and guests of Kharkiv spend their leisure time.
