Poltava Local History Museum named after Vasily Krichevsky

The Poltava Museum of Local History is one of the oldest museums in Ukraine. It was founded in 1891 on the initiative of Professor Vasily Dokuchaev. The museum is located in an old building, which used to be the provincial zemstvo. The building in the style of Ukrainian Art Nouveauwas erected by the architect Vasiliy Krichevsky. A distinctive feature of the building are traditional folk ornaments made on its facade. The central part of the building is decorated with the coats of arms of the cities that make up the Poltava province.

In the museum you can see the personal belongings of representatives of the Cossack sergeant, doctors, writers and other prominent figures of Poltava. Special attention should be paid to historical relics such as the universal of Ivan Mazepa, the hetman and the letter with the personal signature of Kirill Razumovsky.

Through the efforts of the museum's employees, a new exposition called "Treasury" was created, which contains unique items that have survived to the present day from the time of the ancient Roman, ancient Greek and ancient Egyptian civilizations.
