The Latin Quarter, Kiev
The name is taken by analogy with the name of the famous Sorbonne quarter in Paris in the late 19th century. In both cases, is a "science town", populated by students, teachers, scientists. Here are located educational institutions, museums, scientific centers.
The history of the quarter began in 1842, when the new Red Corps of the University opened on Vladimirskaya Street. Gradually the construction of the adjacent territory began, new streets appeared. Over time, the area grew to eight streets. Owners of their own apartments rented accommodation to students and teachers. At that time, the payment of a room in this area cost the student 10 rubles, which was quite acceptable. The neighborhood, like other "student campuses," did not have a positive discipline - young people often arranged riots, noisy parties.
Despite the fact that visiting students inhabit different parts of Kiev, this quarter has the same name. Today, on the territory of the block a walking excursion route is laid. The Red Corps of the University, the park and the Vladimir Cathedral are included in the list of overview objects.
