Merefo-Kherson Bridge, Dnepropetrovsk
Merefo-Kherson railway bridge in Dnepropetrovsk by right can be considered a visiting card of the city. For unique technical characteristics and artistic expressiveness, the bridge is recognized as a monument of engineering architecture of national importance.
The construction of the bridge under the project of GP Perederia was started in 1912, but the First World War broke the construction, during this time it was possible to erect only the supports of the metal bridge. Only in 1929 the construction of the bridge was resumed, thanks to the rapid pace of construction in 1932, the bridge was put into operation. During the war, the Merefo-Kherson Bridge was badly damaged, but in 1951, after a major restoration, the railway bridge acquired the current look. Its total length is 1610 meters, it is the longest reinforced concretearch bridge in Europe.
Merefo-Kherson bridge with its openwork arches harmoniously blended with the modern look of Dnepropetrovsk and became its integral part. Panoramic view of the bridge opens from the Dnipro Embankment, where guests and residents often like to relax.
