Lutheran Church, Zhitomir

Lutherans from Germany settled here more than 200 years ago. In the middle of the 19th century, the territory where the church is now located belonged to a certain German from . When he died, part of his land was transferred to the community of Lutherans so that they built there the church and the dwelling of the priest. In 1896, this place appeared the church in the modernist Gothic style. And this street was christened Lutheran. With Zhitomir, the name of the unrivaled pianist Svyatoslav Richter is also associated. His grandfather came to Zhytomyr in the middle of the 19th century, when many Germans actively moved to these regions, trying to find work. The ancestor of the great pianist played in the church on the organ.

In the 30s of the last century, the sports hall of the Dynamo Society settled in the premises of the khirkh. In the mid-80s the society moved to another room, and the church was returned. Unfortunately, a small company of Zhytomyr's Lutherans did not have the means to support the church and were forced to transfer this building to Christian Baptists. Now, for the Lutherans' service, the Baptist community provides them with a temple building for free.
