St. Nicholas Church, Lebedin
St. Nicholas Church in the city Lebedin combined all the best features of the two styles - Renaissance and Byzantine, creating a special "brick" style. This style became widespread in the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the territory of Ukraine. The construction of the St. Nicholas Church was completed in 1890. Architect V. Nemkin generously gave the walls arches, cornices and other artsy decor. The temple is made in the form of a cross and is crowned with one dome.
In the old days, there was a school at the church.
Surprisingly, the temple was originally built from chipped boards, and not sawed. After it was encased with a brick, but still in some places one can see the outlines of the wooden walls. The bell made in 1660 became a special pride of the temple. Another is an amazing and ancient thing kept in the church - the icon of St. Nicholas, brought by the first settlers. The image and the silver garment were so dilapidated that they had to be restored. After the restoration, these historical monuments can be seen in the walls of the church of St. Nicholas.
