Large and Small Kuchugurs

The Great and Lesser Kuchugurs are sandy, weakly hilly massifs with dunes. They are located in the above-floodplain terraces of the Kakhovka Reservoir. Such islands are common on many riversUkraine. But especially there are many of them in the eastern part of the Dnieper.

Kuchugury is a state ornithological reserve since 1974. The reserve is 4 km. In all, there are 13 islands at a distance of 10-12 km from the coast. They are located in the Zaporozhye region near the station Tavriysk. The islands were formed in the result of the construction of the Kakhovka water reservoir. Human access to them is difficult because of thickets of bushes and rushes.

Big and Small Kuchugurs is a place for nesting rare species of birds. Sandy massifs on the shore became the basis for the construction of large cities, such as Energodar. Having such a location, Energodar does not occupy the area of ​​fertile land, which is very favorable for the nature of the Zaporozhye region.
