Monument Shevchenko in Uzhgorod - one of the most outstanding monuments of the city, is next to the regional administration. A fighter against the autocratic system of the Russian Empire, a Ukrainian poet, Kobzar froze thoughtfully on the pedestal. Cast in bronze figure in full growth makes a deep impression.

The fate of installing the monument of the famous poet and artist was decided for a long time. On the way, there were difficulties in financing the project, for a long time natural conditions did not allow, even the monument was planned to be moved. But here came this long-awaited moment: on the day of the 185th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko, in March 1999, the sculptor M. Mikhaylyuk erected a monument to Shevchenko.

Finding this greatest creation is not at all difficult. It is located in the center of the city in People's Square, a little to the right of the building of the regional administration. According to the sculptor's idea, the monument creates the impression of walking Shevchenko. In a long cloak with a raised collar Kobzar leads in some confusion. His frown makes one think about all his wrongdoings.
