Turul Monument is installed in the courtyard of an ancient castle in Uzhgorod, not far from the village of Vilok, which is located in the Transcarpathian region. The bronze sculpture is a majestic bird-predator, preparing for take-off. In fact, Turul is a mystical bird that looks like a falcon, stories about which can often be found in Hungarian mythology.

The Turul monument was erected in the courtyard of an ancient castle in Uzhgorod, not far from village Vilok, that in the territory of the Transcarpathian region. This sculpture is associated with events that took place as early as 1703. Turul became a symbol of the victory of the Hungarian insurgents over the Austrian troops. The monument was erected in 1903, 800 years after the famous event. "Turul" in translation from Turkic means "falcon". According to historical legends, it was the falcon that was the favorite bird of the hunters and nomads of the Scythian tribes. With this bird, many peoples have legends and mythical stories, and she herself is elevated to the rank of totem and even an idol.

After the Second World War, the monument to the legendary bird was dismantled and sent to the Uzhgorod Museum. And only in 1989 the Turul monument was restored.
